Private security guards killed in ISAF airstrike

Mar 01, 2011 - 16:26

LASHKARGAH (PANinfo-icon): Four security guards of a private road construction company were killed during an airstrike by NATOinfo-icon-led forces in southern Helmand province, an official said on Tuesday.

A fifth road worker was wounded during the air raid in Haider Aab area of Greshk district late on Monday night, Helmand police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hakim Angar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A police team was in the area to investigate the incident, which the firm blamed on international troops, the police chief said, without naming the road construction company.

Also on Monday night, guards providing security for a road project suffered several casualties during an International Security Assistance Force raid in Sangin district, claimed a resident, Abdul Ahad.

Meanwhile, a Talibaninfo-icon spokesman said the Greshk strike was in retaliation for a militant attack on foreign troops. Several soldiers were killed in the assault, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said, adding the fighters suffered no casualties.

In Kabulinfo-icon, the ISAFinfo-icon media office said that it had no information about the Greshk bombardment.
