Qarabagh police chief injured in Ghazni clash

Jul 13, 2017 - 00:21

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The police chief for Qarabagh district of southern Ghazni province was injured during a clash with Talibaninfo-icon insurgents who lost a dozen fighters to the overnight battle, an official said on Wednesday.

Another 15 insurgents were wounded in the clash with police in the Qarabagh district after the rebels stormed police posts last night, Ghazni police spokesman Fahim Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Two policemen, including the district police chief, Col. Lotfullah Kamran, were wounded in the clash, which also resulted in confiscation of weapons from the attackers, he added.

Three dead bodies of the Taliban remained on the clash site, the police spokesman said.

A resident of the district, Rohullah, said three local policemen, including a post commander Nasir, were killed during last night clashes. “The Taliban came in large number and killed Nasir and his two subordinates. It is possible the Taliban have also suffered casualties.’

But Ghazni police denied the killing of any Afghan Local Police personnel in the firefight, which was also confirmed by the Taliban.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the rebels stormed police posts in Sherabad area, killing four ALP men, including Nasir.

He said the district police chief was injured along with his four friends in the clash that left only one fighter wounded.
