Daesh network in Kunar destroyed with key members killed: Police

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Senior Police official in eastern Kunar province claimed on Thursday the Islamic State (IS) or also known as Daesh militant organization has been pressed and the group lost key members during security forces operations.

Police chief Maj. Gen Juma Gul Hemat, told Pajhwok Afghan News during an exclusive interview that Afghan and foreign forces had stepped up military operations against the group recently.

He said at least 64 key members of Daesh had been killed during airstrikes, adding that all hideouts of the hardcore terrorist group in Watapor, Manogee, Chapa Dara district and in some other areas destroyed.

Hemat assures the insurgents lost the ability to recruit fighters in most areas of Kunar. The US forces conducted 35 drone strikes since the IS group had started activities against the government.

The IS group was currently involved recruiting fighters from Mazar Dara area of Noor Gul district and Batash locality of Narai. Operation would be conducted in these areas to eliminate Daesh network and restore peace.

Police chief reaffirmed all hideouts and sanctureis of militants group Daesh would be destroyed and promised the groups would never be allowed to stage a comeback.
