China to build homes for Badakhshan flood victims

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Chinese Embassy in Afghanistaninfo-icon has expressed its country’s readiness to build homes for victims of natural calamities in northeastern Badakhshan province, a statement on Wednesday.

The statement from CEO Abdullah Abdullah office said a number of representatives and influential figures from Badakhshan on Tuesday met the CEO and briefed him about the situation of the homeless people in Darwaz districts.

They told the CEO that dozens of homes had been destroyed by recently floods, rendering many families displaced and homeless. They said the families were currently living in tents.

The statement said the CEO for addressing the shelter issue of the victims on Wednesday met Chinese Ambassador in Kabul, Yao Jing.

Abdullah asked Jing for assistance and construction of homes for the victims of Darwaz districts keeping in view the harsh conditions they lived in.

Yao Jing in the meeting expressed his country’s readiness to assist and establish shelters for the flood-affected families in Darwaz districts -- Maimay, Nusay and Shekay.

According to the statement, it was decided that the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) would soon start working on establishing 130 residences, a healthinfo-icon clinic, a school in the area with financial support from China.
